Information Technology plays an ever increasing role in our day to day lives. It forms a substantial investment in the majority of companies and with the current financial situation it is prudent to look after and maintain this investment carefully.
However it can be safe to say that the vast majority of companies neglect the process of looking after and protecting their equipment with the care an attention that it requires.
Along with this need to maintain and clean equipment, schools and offices are known areas of concern due to the harmful germs and bacteria that can be spread from equipment.
Now with the every growing Flu pandemic, matters like this are only going to get worse.
The facts are simple; you would not touch a toilet seat in a public place without washing your hands immediately afterwards would you? Yet we all think nothing of answering the telephone whilst tapping on a keyboard or clicking on the mouse as we digest a sandwich or a biscuit. The same goes for not thinking about washing our hands immediately after we have typed in our PIN on a cash machine do we? Nobody knows the state of the hands on the other people that have used that same ATM in the last 3 days (the believed time that germs can survive on a hard surface).
We cannot prevent sickness in learning areas or the workplace but we can minimise the risks to employees and the equipment that they use by applying a little due care and attention.
